Professional editorial services to enhance your written communication
Experience
- Since launching my freelance business, I have worked on several legal books for both academic and charity publishers, both as a copyeditor and a proofreader, and in both UK and US English. I have also worked on legal magazines and guides.
- For the 20 years prior to becoming freelance, I worked for the access to justice charity, Legal Action Group, as deputy editor and then editor of its monthly journal Legal Action, which won the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians' Legal Journals Award six times during my time at LAG. I also project managed the setting up of a new website and was responsible for the journal's online content.
- At the start of my career, I was accepted on to a graduate traineeship in journalism at Euromoney Legal Media Group. While there, I edited two editions of a large directory of the world's leading financial law firms, the International Financial Law Review 1000, and was responsible for recruiting and training a team of journalists and researchers. I also edited a series of shorter Expert Guides.
- In between that, I had a short stint at City law firm Field Fisher Waterhouse in the marketing department and at the Mayor of London's press office in the media monitoring team.
Further training
- I have recently completed some refresher training with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading: Proofreading 1: Introduction (passed: 2023); Proofreading 2: Headway (passed with merit: 2024); Copyediting 1: Introduction (passed: 2024); and Word for Practical Editing (passed: 2024). I have also passed CIEP's editorial test (2024).
Academia
- I have a BSc Honours degree in Human Sciences from Sussex University (2.1) and an MSc in Politics and International Relations from Southampton University.
Professional memberships
- I am a professional-level member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I am bound by CIEP's Professional Practice Code.
